This my first illustration of Robin Hood, this a character that I find very interesting, becasue he is the original outlaw archetype and there is no definitive look for him. The designs come from both the statue of Robin Hood in Nottingham as well as some of the movies. I started with a simple pen drawing and just went for the colors I wanted to create a different feel in this illustration, I colored Robin Hood differently then I usually color characters to create a more textured feel. as always comment and crits are welcome.
I would like to thank Raziel753 for a really good crit and Sasha for helping me fix up this picture from the original
version.
Thats just cold. Let me know Raz gave up some keys to the kingdom. I scroll down all slap happy to know what morsels of knowledge Raz was going to drop ....and you hide the f&*ing comment "Snap!". Anyways....Im not sure how your throwing down on your coloring methods with PS. Im not sure if its the one I suggested with the multiply layer jazz. Or rather something you learned in school. Either way I would like to make a suggestion. When you think your done with the major coloring and your on to details. I mean make it all tight and clean, then flatten the image out ( one layer ) and finish it up like a real piece of art. It takes me back in touch with the teaching of traditional methods of creating art. As well as your brain doesnt have to concentrate on all that computer mumbo-jumbo like "what F*&KING layer am I on....ahh SH%T wrong one!" It just makes it a little freeing and it help the illustration ( line work ) and the PS coloring job work more seamlessly together. Thats how I colored that doodle of batman in you drew. Its just a thought. Your most likely hide it anyways punk.
I like the composition you have created but I dont know if i like the coloring. robin seems to blend in too much with the background....I think his complection is too yellow. Also the line art seems rushed....I never liked using the tablet to do my line art I think It would be cool if oyu went back in and retraced the line work so that it was a little more fluid and also add more detail to his shirt, hat, arrows, etc. and make the tree more detailed (i know its sucks doing lame stuff like tree bark but I think it will really look much better when youre done!) But very cool concept! I want to see him with a group of his merry men (each one could have his own specialty! You could really do some cool character design with their costumes and weapons and stuff!!!) Nice work!
Interesting, this was actually a little pen drawing i did on a corner of a doodle sheet, I'll see how it looks with more lines. I'm not sure about the yellow I think it might be the difference in monitors.
I have a good idea for the merrymen but thee is a lot of them 12 score as it says in one of the stories.
That is alot of men!!! Well it would be cool to do some of the inner circle Little John and what not..... groovy! this could be a cool series of illustrations!!!
