Jack and the Beanstalk by yusef-abonamah Jack and the Beanstalk by yusef-abonamah
The is a an illustration of Jack and the Beanstalk, and it is something that I have wanted to do for a very long time. I love all the Jack tales, and last year I did a few illustrations of Jack the the Giant Killer. In this one I just wanted to capture, the feeling of what is to come, man eating Ogre and what not. In this I approached the coloring in a different way, by starting with dark base colors, which in the past i did not do. Comments are welcome!

...Wow... the angle on this is so good. Really captures the drama of the moment... I can almost hear the wind rustling those leaves...
Great colors, excellent work on the lighting!

Lol, I like how you put your name in a scroll... :D

I really like the feel that this has. The bits of sunlight that are poking though help give it an eirie feeling. Kind of like that lonely feeling. I really love the coloring style that you chose as well. It really has that storybook feel. Your characters are soo cool! I love the way that you draw them!

P.s. There is a really Jack and the Beanstalk story in the musical, "Into the Woods". If you haven't seen it yet...you have to see it! Epic.

I like both the composition and the palate. It really gives a nice earthy feeling to the old school tales. I think you might want to add some atmospheric perspective to the town. You can already see the light beam catching some atmosphere in the front so you should desaturate the colors on the town to fog it out a bit.

I think that the subdued and darker colors really lends to the feeling of the picture. It reminds me more of the idea that fairy tales were made as warnings to naughty children, not fun stories, but this is both.
